"Straits
Chinese" or the Baba and Nyonya are
Chinese of noble descendants
who have adopted much of the Malay culture
into theirs. The public can now view the
heirloom unique to this heritage at the
private museum run by the Babas and Nyonyas
of Melaka Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock was
Melaka's "Millionaires Row." Here you
will find some of the most exquisite examples
of Baba and Nyonya houses. Most of these
houses display an interesting blend of
Dutch and Chinese influences. You will
be amazed to discover how the narrow façade
belies the airy spaciousness of the house's
interior. One house definitely worth stopping
at is No 117 with its Dutch architecture,
courtyard and silver-painted dome.
