The
Melaka Agropark at Selandar is situated
close to the town of Selandar which is
situated some 50km away from the bustling
historic city of Melaka Planned initially
as a food production center, it has been
redesigned as a fruit park where local
and foreign tourists can enjoy nature's
gifts in a traditional orchard atmosphere.
160
acres of the park with undulating terrain
has been leased to 14 fruit and eight
vegetable growers. Grown here on a wide
variety of popular local fruits such as
mangoes, citrus, ciku, rambutan, cempedak,
guava, belimbing, longan, durian and pandan
coconut.
Apart
from these, other crops grown are bananas,
kedondong, pineapples and a host of other
common plants. 20 acres is planted with
honeydew and melon, the exotic Golden
Langkawi variety, which is exported to
countries like Singapore, Hong Kong and
Taiwan. Another 20 acres is planted with
'tongkat ali' a popular medicinal plant
said to be a potent aphrodisiac.
The
Melaka Agropark, Selandar is still in
its initial stages of development and
when fully develop in a couple of years,
will be an ideal place to visit.
Apart
from being able to pluck fresh fruits
from the trees, the agropark will also
provide chalets , aromatheraphy and traditional
massage centers, an aviary and mini zoo,
retail shops selling fresh fruits and
vegetable, camping site and jungle trekking.
Apart form being a popular tourist spot
and recreational center, it is envisaged
that the agropark will develope into an
educational and learning center for students
and the public in general.
